In Black America is the work of a dedicated team of people who have tried to present the inside story as they see it. Their goal, beyond simple factual presentation, was not to overwhelm the reader with a mass of data and events, but to penetrate to the core of what these occurrences meant: they did not seek merely to record information, but to improve understanding. In order to further this goal, the research data was supplemented by a pictorial tour; beginning in the past, when the stage was set for the 1960 decade of gigantic development, the illustrations culminate with the reality of the black movement of 1969.
